Homeowners can coat their roofs with white elastomeric
material. Two brands that work well in Hawaii are "White
Lava" and "Top Coat". These brands contain no vinyl
and stretch and shrink without cracking. That's important.
Vinyl is a no-no for Hawaiian roofs. All
Weather Surfaces in Halawa Valley can train homeowners
to do it themselves. It's pretty simple. Once a roof
is coated, temperatures in the house will drop 6 to
10 degrees. That's huge! Watch our video on the home page as Dwight and Jon tackle a white roof job. Very cool.
These fans will pull hot sticky air out of attics and
upper rooms and cost nothing to operate it. Jim Wilkinson
installs them as well as Ray's Solar Fans. Go to
Inter-Island Solar for more information about solar
equipment.
These come in big rolls and work much better than traditional
fiberglass. They are also healthier to handle and can
help if a homeowner cannot access his roof. These rolls
can be applied to the inside of the attic with a staple
gun. You can buy them at Home Depot. An even better
way to insulate the attic is to use Astro
Foil. See below for details
